Administrative Network user accounts
Getting A BRCC IT Administrative Account
New employees and adjunct faculty will need to fill out an
Information
Technology Account Request Form and
return it to their assigned supervisor or division dean for
signatures. After the account has been created, the
employee must complete the online security awareness training
within 30 days.
User Names
Your assigned user name will be "br" followed by the first
four letters of your last name and the first letter of your
first name. For example: John Smith's user name would be "brsmitj".
Passwords
New Accounts
New accounts will be assigned a temporary password that will
allow you to log into the network once and prompt you to change
it. You can change your password from an administrative
computer on campus or through
WebAccess Email from
off-campus. See instructions below. Existing Accounts
Network passwords expire every 60 days for security reasons.
About a week before expiration, you start receiving
notifications upon login that your password is about to expire.
The notification window will provide a button to click to change
your password.
Password Security
Passwords need to be at least 5 characters in length and
cannot be reused. For more security, choose a password
of at least 10 characters that combines upper and lowercase letters, numbers,
and a character.
Avoid using family names or other words that someone with access
to personal information may guess. Never keep your
password in written form in your records.
From Windows Network Login Screen
Click the "Change Password" button. You will be
prompted to enter your old password, new password, and confirm
your new password. From WebAccess
Click the Shortcuts view button in the left frame, then click
the Options icon. Scroll down the options page until you
see the "Change Password" button and click. The Internet
Service Manager Window will appear. Enter brcc in the
domain field, your user name in the account field (br followed
by first 4 letters of last name and first letter of first name),
old password, and new password and confirm new password.
Forget Password?
Forgot your password? Contact the Institutional Computing
Services (ICS) Helpdesk to reset your password.
Locked Accounts
If you enter the wrong password three times, your account
will be locked for security reasons. You will need to call
the ICS Help Desk to have it reset.
Deleting a Network Account
Supervisors are responsible for submitting an
IT Account Termination Form
to Institutional Computing for employees who terminate their
employment with the college. The form should be submitted
prior to the employee's departure (with an effective termination
date) or immediately thereafter.
