Streaming Media Publishing
Note: Before publishing, users will need an academic account,
a FrontPage Web, and a directory on the media server. Academic accounts and
FrontPage Webs can be requested through the
IT
Account Request Form. Media directories are requested
through the
Streaming Media Publishing Access Request Form.
After your directory is created, you will be given instructions
to map a drive to the media server.
Preparing Media for Streaming
Windows Movie Maker
Windows Movie Maker is included with Windows XP and can used
to edit footage as needed. Open Movie Maker by going to
Start>All Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Windows Movie
Maker. From Movie Maker, open the Help menu, then select
the "Windows Movie Maker on the Web" option to find practical
information about digital video, including a "Getting Started
with Windows Movie Maker" section for beginners and a "How-To
Center".
Windows Media Encoder
Windows Media Encoder is available as a free download from
Microsoft.com and can be used to capture video, audio and
screenshots or convert movies to a streaming format. Go to
www.microsoft.com and type Windows Media Encoder in
the search feature, download and install. See also:

Upload Streaming File to Media Server
- Go to “My Network Places”
- Double-click “ACDBRCC WMS Folder”
- If prompted to login, use your
academic account:
username: acdbrcc\lastnamefirstinitial
password: *********
- Select the appropriate folder for your movie:
- Restricted>User_Last_Name>Class directory
- Paste or drag and drop your movie to the folder.
Create a Link to a Movie
Direct Link
Use the following structure to create links to your streaming
media files:
mms://www1.brcc.edu/WWW1_Restricted/DirectoryName/moviefilename&extension
Windows Media Metafile
You can also create a simple asx file which opens the file in a
media player and contains additional information about the file. For
your convenience, a template file can be downloaded here.

- Open Notepad or other plain text editor (do not use
Microsoft Word.)
- Copy and paste the following code:

- Save with an .asx extension
- Open FrontPage Web
- File>Import asx file
- Create a link to the asx file in FrontPage or
Blackboard.
