Quick Book Search:          Library Home

Employees - please see NEW BRCC Faculty and Staff remote directions instructions.

Follow these easy directions;
and from your home computer
you will be able to access all
the Houff Library databases.
(VIVA resources are restricted to
currently enrolled students/employees.
)

Step 1 - Your User ID

Go to  https://br.my.vccs.edu/jsp/userconfig.jsp?action=lookup  to find your User ID.

Step 2 - Your Password

Beginning 9/27/05, students, faculty, and staff logging into SIS, Blackboard, Student Email or MY BRCC with default or all numeric passwords will be required to change them.

New passwords must meet all the following requirements:

  • have at least seven characters but not more than ten
  • contain at least one UPPERCASE letter
  • contain at least one lowercase letter
  • contain at least one number (0-9)

Step 3 - Logging In

When you click on one of the Library's databases, a window will pop up asking for your login and password.

Possible Problems and Solutions:

  1. Occasionally your access flag will be set to off for some reason we have not yet been able to determine.  We can check that for you over the phone with your BRCC e-mail address and birthdate.  That can be quickly fixed and then you will be able to access our databases.
  2. If you get a cookie error when you try to access one of our databases, you may need to set your privacy setting to Low.  This can be done on Explorer under the Tools - Internet Options - Privacy tab.  Simply move the little arrow to the bottom so it says Low.
  3. AOL and Compuserve Users:  Minimize the AOL browser after you have made the connection.  Then launch Explorer or Netscape to access the library page and search.  Otherwise, you will get an error message whenever you try to access one of our databases.
  4. Most of our databases work better in Explorer than Netscape.  If you  need to download Internet Explorer, click here.
  5. Often our databases cannot be accessed from your workplace because of your employer's computer firewall.
  6. Your Internet connection from home may be so slow that you will need to wait an interminably long time for our databases to finally come up when you click on them.  Either be patient or come to the library or our Harrisonburg or Fishersville branch campuses and use our high-speed Internet connection there.
  7. Have you ever been enrolled at another community college?  If so, make sure you are using the correct login with the right password.  You can determine that at http://www.brcc.edu/computing/student/accounts/Default.htm.
  8. If you get a firewall message when trying to login, it is either because you have installed a firewall on your home computer OR because you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2 (the upgrade Microsoft highly recommends you install).  Go into Service Pack 2 and un-install the firewall that is automatically enabled on that program.

There are sometimes other reasons for no access to our databases.  If you need assistance, please call the following numbers for assistance:
